Ambition is the last refuge of failure.
A list of 10 things I want to do before I turn 30
Published on May 19, 2009 By Silver_and_Jade_Tears In Everything Else

1. Spend a year hitch-hiking around the country: Why would I want to do this... a mix of camping out in the middle of nowhere, and visiting various towns/cities just draws me.

2. Learn how to play the piano: I took lessons for two years when I was about 9, but my teacher decided that her time would be better spent elsewhere.  However, thanks to modern technology (aka: YouTube), I hope to teach myself how to play at least the basics, and maybe a song here and there.

3. Finish the Expert career mode in Guitar Hero 3 on the standard controller: Immature? Absolutely!  Fun?  Extremely!  Painful? Oooooh yeah!

4. Take a pottery class: A reason to get dirty.

5. Become a high school History teacher: I feel this is something that I am meant to do.  If I ever had a "calling" this would be it.

6. Learn how to swim: Due to a traumatic near death experience involving deep water when I was 4, I still have not learned how to swim.  Being able to learn would be a way of proving to myself that I can step above my fears.

7. Go white water rafting: Considering my fears of deep water, I have no idea why this appeals to me, but it does.  A natural water ride that is much more risky than anything you will find in an amusement park.  Fun!

8. Sing at a karaoke bar: Lots of alcohol would be involved, I am sure, but it still seems fun.

9. Visit the Ice Hotel in Sweden: Sleeping on a bed made of ice... that's what makes life interesting.

10. Win a photography contest: Because I think I can.

I taught myself to swim last year.  It involved going to the pool a few times a week and with nobody around I just kind of figured things out.  In the past I would have been to shy about floundering around not having a clue what I was doing.   I'm not great at it, but at least I could save myself and swim for a bit if I got thrown overboard or something.  Before that I'm sure it would have been complete panic.

Oh and I'm well over the age of 30!

I too always wanted to play piano but never did.   And I love history and do teach it to anyone who will listen....lol, so it looks like we've got some stuff in common.

Good luck in your future endeavors.

That's awesome that you were able to figure it out for yourself.  My initial reaction in water is to curl up if I can't feel the floor, so I think I will probably need help... someone that can beat it into me that I need to stay straight, lol.

History and music... two best things on earth.

My middle guy will start the Violin.

Violin is haaaard.  Many respects to him.

108... I age backwards, so this gives me several years to attempt these things.  LoL.

I'm 22.

Those are awesome goals.  Major before 30, isn't that pretty rare?  (At least, it is in the air force).  Best of luck!

You've got an excellent chance to hit all of those by 30 then    At 27, 30 is looming large on the horizon for me.  I think I'll borrow your #7 item though.  Should be doable

You're still young enough that any adrenaline rushes from it wont make you flop over dead from a heart attack... you are pushing it though...   (I'm totally kidding)
